Terminal Skandinavienkai
Efficient Link in the European Transport Chain
Terminal Skandinavienkai, the biggest terminal within the Port of LĂĽbeck and one of the biggest RoRo- and ferry terminals in Europe is located directly at the mouth of River Trave. The terminal combines excellent hinterland and intermodal connections with a dense network of Baltic Sea liner shipping services.
With as many as 90 arrivals and departures per week fast links are provided within the transport chain between Europe’s main industrial centres and those located in Sweden, Finland, Russia and the Baltic States. Gothenburg, Trelleborg, Malmö, Helsingborg, Helsinki, Turku, Hanko, Rauma and Riga are served as 'partner ports' at the other end of the ferry services regularly and with short sailing frequencies.
Highly qualified and trained personnel and equipment with high technical standard are being offered to the terminal’s customers 24 hours per day on 365 days per year. Terminal Skandinavienkai has been developed into a turntable for all cargo transported by accompanied lorries and trailers, in containers and swap bodies. Moreover substantial annual volumes of export cars, both new and second-hand, are handled for shipment to their Northern and Eastern markets. Out of a total of nine berths, two berths are equipped to allow for loading and discharging of railcars.
Moreover some 412,000 passengers make Terminal Skandinavienkai the starting point or destination for their trips across the Baltic Sea.
The cargo volume handled at Terminal
Skandinavienkai amounts to 18.1 mill. tons, whereby balanced import and export
volumes provide excellent opportunities to customers in respect of transportation by road, sea and rail. Thus Terminal Skandinavienkai contributes to fast, efficient and
economic transport chains.
With a view to meeting the challenges of the future and at the same time safeguard and increase the quality of the services supplied to customers as well as the clients’ satisfaction, Terminal Skandinavienkai has become the centre of several expansion and modernisation projects. On the basis of high investments extensive expansion programmes have been launched to provide
berth- and land capacities in accordance with future customer demands. Following the reconstruction of some of the berths and the expansion of terminal area, a major step was taken by the construction of the new terminal for combined transport operated by Baltic Rail Gate, located directly on-site.
Most modern EDP-solutions with online connections to the port customers have been created with a view to increasing port productivity and improve the management and steering of terminal operations on single-process-basis, even further aiming at reduced dispatch times for vessels and cargo.
