Unaccompanied traffic

Northbound (Gates: 4, 5, (6). Lanes: A, B, (C))

  • On arrival at the terminal, drivers of unaccompanied units either park their vehicles in the waiting area (prior to shipping company booking-in or visits to the Hafenhaus) or drive directly to the gate. Handling lanes are marked accordingly.
  • The vehicle passes through the scanner, where it is photographed. The barrier to the scanner closes after the vehicle has entered.
  • Photographs of the vehicle and its automatically registered number plate details are displayed on a monitor in the gate office.
  • Using the photographic information, gate employees are able to check registrations as well as trailer or container numbers and fleet number.
  • Where units are being collected at the same time, drivers must hand in their TIN number at the gate. This is the earliest possible checking possibility for sorting out any potential TIN identification problems before departure.
  • Monitoring includes a check on whether a trailer booking is to hand, as well as determination of parking slots in the event of collection and allocation of suitable parking slots in delivery cases.
  • The driver receives a docket with stowage slot information (automatic print-out or gate personnel hand-out) as well as a label and can enter the terminal site after the barrier has been raised. Once the gate office area is clear, the scanning system reopens and the scanner barrier is raised for the next vehicle.

Southbound (Gates: (1), 2, 3). Lanes: (V), U, T))

  • The vehicle drives through the scanner to the gate office. The scanner barrier closes automatically behind the vehicle.
  • Photographs of the vehicle and its automatically registered number plate details are displayed on a monitor in the gate office.
  • The driver hands the docket (which contains the registered TIN) to the gate personnel.
  • After the TIN has been checked, the gate office is opened and the vehicle can leave the port. Once the gate office area is clear, the scan system opens again, along with the scanner barrier.

Accompanied traffic

Northbound (Lanes: D, E)

  • On arrival at the terminal, drivers of accompanied units park their vehicles in the waiting area, prior to booking-in with the shipping company.
  • After booking-in, drivers receive an ID card from the shipping company, which, where appropriate, is also part of the booking and authorises entry to the terminal.
  • The driver is directed to the gate along marked lanes. Here he can himself open the terminal entrance barrier using the ID card he has been given. The ID card is retained.
  • If the unit has to be scanned, the vehicle is driven through the scanner at the gate office. The barrier closes automatically behind the vehicle.
  • Vehicle photographs and automatically collated registration details are displayed for gate personnel on a monitor.
  • If the vehicle registration number is on the current booking lists, the IHS gate dialogue system will display the corresponding data for gate office personnel. If no such data is available then the driver will need to identify himself with a ticket or similar documentation.
  • Gate personnel can when required collect the ID. The driver can enter the port once the barrier has been opened. Once the gate area is clear, the scanning system opens the scanner barrier again.
  • In the case of TT-Line, Nordö and Finnlines, ship access is via separate lanes under a Quick Check-in system. In the case of Nordö and Finnlines, units are processed in their own lanes before driving through the gates and into the port, where gate procedures are continued. Nordö’s accompanied vehicles get a cardboard authorisation card which opens the barriers and allows independent entry to the port. TT-Line handling takes place in its own gate lanes and accompanied units are not directed into the port via LHG gates.

Southbound (Lanes: W, X)

  • The drivers of southbound accompanied trucks must have their gate passes ready when they leave, because these are collected by gate personnel. Gate passes are distributed to drivers along with their travel tickets in the departure port.
  • Accompanied trucks are directed out of the terminal without any further stops and via the lane designated for accompanied truck traffic/personnel. Vehicles which do not have a gate pass will not be allowed to leave the port area.

Car traffic

Northbound (Gates: 10-12. Lanes: F-S)

  • Entry is via the lane marked specifically for car traffic.
  • Processing and lining-up in the pre-parking area in front of the gate is organised by the appropriate shipping companies. The processing of vehicles takes place in the gate area. The entry barrier to the terminal is opened by shipping company personnel as dictated by their own requirements for car handling in the pre-parking area.
  • After processing and once the vehicle is parked in the port area, it is no longer possible to leave the non-public area of the port.

Southbound (Lanes: W, X)

  • These vehicles leave without a gate pass along the lane marked for accompanied truck traffic/personnel.

Deliveries (not general cargo)

Northbound (Gates: 4,5,(6). Lanes: A,B, (C))

  • On arrival at the terminal, delivery vehicles drive along the lanes marked for delivery vehicles and pass through the scanner. The barrier closes automatically behind the vehicle.
  • Photographs of the vehicle and its automatically collated registration details are displayed on a monitor in the gate office.
  • At the gate immediately after the gate office, the driver identifies himself to the gate personnel. Authorisation can take the form of delivery notes or similar documents. The driver is handed a handling certificate.
  • After the barrier has been raised, the vehicle can proceed into the port. Once the gate office area is clear again, the scanning system is re-opened, along with the barrier to the scanner. (Where necessary the barrier can also be opened in combination with an IHS ‘open barrier’ message sent to the scanning system.)

Southbound (Gates: (1), 2,3. Lanes: (V),U,T)

  • The vehicle drives though the scanner to the gate office. The barrier to the scanner closes automatically behind it.
  • Photographs of the vehicle and its automatically collated registration details are displayed on a monitor in the gate office.
  • At the gate office, personnel collect the handling certificates handed out on entry and open the barriers to allow departure. Once the gate office area is clear again, the scanning system is re-opened, along with the scanner barrier. (Where necessary the barrier can also be opened in combination with an IHS ‘open barrier’ message sent to the scanning system.)

Terminal visitors

Northbound (Gates: 4,5,(6). Lanes: A,B, (C))

  • The visitor arrives at the terminal and drives along the lanes marked for visitor traffic to the gate and through the scanner. The barrier closes automatically behind the vehicle.
  • Photographs of the vehicle and its automatically collated registration details are displayed on a monitor in the gate office.
  • At the gate immediately after the gate office, the driver must provide identification. Entry is permitted without further identification. Those visiting customers are allowed into the terminal if the visit has been arranged in advance or after gate personnel have cross-checked with the customer. The visiting driver will receive a pass either at the gate office on the way in or one signed off by the customer. This serves as an exit permit.
  • After the barrier has been raised, the driver can enter the port. Once the gate office area is clear again, the scanning system is re-opened, along with the barrier. (Where necessary the barrier can also be opened in combination with an IHS ‘open barrier’ message sent to the scanning system.)

Southbound (Gates: (1), 2,3. Lanes: (V),U,T)

  • Visitors drive through the scanner to the gate office. The scanner barrier closes automatically after the vehicle.
  • Photographs of the vehicle and its automatically collated registration details are displayed on a monitor in the gate office.
  • Gate office personnel collect the exit permit received by the visitor on entry to the terminal and raise the barrier to permit exit. Once the gate office area is clear again, the scanning system is re-opened, along with the barrier. (Where necessary the barrier can also be opened in combination with an IHS ‘open barrier’ message sent to the scanning system.)
