Prevention of Environmental Problems is better than Cure

In due time LHG has developed an extensive concept to avoid environmental hazards. LHG's environmental management has been certified according to ISO 14001 since 2000.

The Port of Lübeck is perfectly prepared to handle 'conventional' transports as well as transports of hazardous goods in an environmentally sensitive manner. Due to the intelligent control of the cargo flows, empty shipments are reduced to a minimum. Optimum hinterland connections provide various options to choose the ecologically most suitable mode of transport.

But there is also a variety of smaller measures which create great synergy effects. Ships' waste removal according to the MARPOL rules is for LHG as natural as using biodegradable lubricants, comprehensive measures for noise protection or selective waste disposal. Before the rainwater flows back into River Trave it gets cleaned by a special rain clarifier. Sustainable area management with internal optimisation increases LHG's efficiency and productivity of the port.

Forward-looking technology, the necessary experience and the very special knowledge make the Port of Lübeck already today a real 'Green Port'.
